Volunteers 07-08

Posted Thursday, Mar 13, 2008 by pgrant

I’ve been impressed by the high level of volunteerism at Watershed this year. We’ve had parents, grandparents, other relatives, alumni, and friends help out with all manner of projects and activities throughout the year. The Medieval Feast, for example, wouldn’t be possible without volunteers. Thank you all!

If you’re interested in volunteering for something, don’t hesitate to call Betty in the front office and let her know.

Get Involved!

Watershed depends on parent involvement.

As a charter school, Watershed receives less public funding than regular public schools. Faculty develops a relationship with students in the classroom. Parents cultivate a community of life long learning by developing a relationship with Faculty and students.

Contributing time, creative energy, experience and wisdom broadens the students already available opportunities and enables other adventures previously undiscovered or unattainable. Working together with faculty and students is one of the things that makes Watershed such a vibrant, fun community.

Time is precious and if you are unable to volunteer for the unique opportunities available during school hours consider a Committee (links at the right) or peruse our Wish List (on the right above categories header).

Unique Opportunities to help your Community

  • Attend a Community Council meeting to learn more about upcoming activities and ways you can help out. If you have an idea of your own, don’t be shy about suggesting it, come share your thoughts the first Wednesday evening of each month.
  • Front Desk Staffing:
Volunteers are needed to answer the phone and write passes for students at the Front Desk. A relaxed way to get to know the whole school, bring a book if you’d like to read in the downtime. For more information, contact Jamie Hepner: jhepner (at) watershedhs.org, or 871-4363 x215.
  • Lunch servers/supervisors:
Each school day, an adult volunteer is needed during the lunch hour (11:30-12:30) to help serve lunch and provide general supervision. If you can do this, anyday, just swing by the school.
  • Friday cleaning:
At least 10 people are needed on Friday afternoons 4:00-5:30 (parents and students welcome) to clean the school. Sharing the job will make it much faster and of course more fun. Call or email T.Willoe Traver [612-331-4233 or Willoelove (at) yahoo.com] if you’ll be there to help.
  • Student Recruitment We need to get our enrollment up! You can help by spreading what and why you love Watershed. Make sure to give an invitation to potential students to visit the school - especially 9th & 10th graders. Christina Beck, our enrollment director can schedule a time. She can be reached at 871.4363 x202
